The Winnipeg downtown now offers its homeless
residents better medical facilities, thanks to the new podiatry room that has
been added by the Siloam Mission. The
mission will be able to help even more homeless people now, and provide them
with the medical care that they so desperately need.
A total of three nurses and doctors will staff the
podiatry room, and will consist entirely of volunteers. The facility replaces a
temporary that once occupied the same space and is located within the Siloam
Mission compound.
The addition to the mission is permanent and this
change was brought together by Dr Tejas Patel who led the charge for the
addition of the podiatry room in the mission helping the homeless people.
Donations will fund the services offered by this centre, and will cater to a
wide range of problems faced by the homeless.
A total of $15,000 has already been invested into the
facility, and will ensure that the homeless are able to get quick treatment for
their foot related problems. Foot problems and fungal infections are very
common in the homeless, and the clinic will not only provide treatment for
them, but also help raise awareness about them to ensure these problems are
detected and treated on time.
